A Couple of Months in...

If someone had told us both how much work we were really in for we would have laughed in disbelief. People tell you how much work your own business involves, but really - you have no idea! Not only that, because it is your own business, there's no off time, business talk seeps into breakfasts, lunches and dinners and holidays away. For the artwork side of things, it has meant some very late nights trying to get work done. But all of these are good issues, actually wonderful issues to have -  as the ball starts slowly rolling.

Its been a really exciting couple of months. We took the chance and applied for a stall at the AGHA Gift fair in the Launch Pad, which is an area for new businesses. Honestly, I don't think either of us thought our application would get accepted... but it did, and then we had just six weeks to get ourselves organised for a Trade Fair. But what an experience, and we would recommend it to anyone to just give it a go. We had to create a Christmas card range (which had to be drawn, painted and printed up in that time). We then had to envisage and bring to life a stand that would be true to our image and business idea as well as capture peoples attention (our 2 metre Giraffe certainly helped with that!). Finally we had our daughters first birthday to celebrate and 10 days in Fiji, all in the six weeks before the trade show.

The trade show itself was an amazing experience on a lot of levels - we had to hone our sales skills, we got to meet fantastic people, our fellow stall holders were a lot of fun and we got a lot of contacts out of it... plus, of course, the new business that it created. The trade show was in August but we're still feeling the ripples of what came from it. We're in the process of creating a set of cards for a Conservation Park in South Australia, (all details to be revealed when the cards are completed!!), I'm going to be painting a Giraffe mural on a shop wall in Moonee Ponds at the end of October, we've created more Christmas cards, some native Australian Animal prints and made up some Growth Charts featuring our beautiful Giraffe - all through requests and listening to client feedback.

You know - we had such a good time at the last trade show - we're going to do it all again in February in Sydney!!!

In all seriousness, the work and effort and organisation that we have had to push through in the last couple of months has been staggering, but it's all been worth while, and it's wonderful to start seeing the wheels slowly turning. I'm sure i speak for both of us when i say that we'd do it all again in a heart beat.
